The German music scene Looking back on 2024

In 2024, the mainstream became broader, the niches smaller. In pop music in particular, the hits of the year had an almost satirical quality. Or was it cleverly packaged criticism? At the same time, state funding programs, especially in the fields of classical music and jazz, suffered from budget cuts, leaving smaller productions to fend for themselves. Not always to their detriment, as a look at the current jazz scene proves. Our review of an eventful year brings you up to date!

New annual film series
Alles Liebe

The film series Alles Liebe aims to counter the bad news with a ray of hope, at least cinematically, and shows the most beautiful feeling in the world in very different facets - romantic love stories, unconventional forms of relationships, stories of care, friendship and loyalty.

Over a period of twelve months, the series lets us share love stories and shows how people find each other and stand up for each other across dividing lines.

Postmigration Societies
The Importance of Belonging

The question of migration has become a dominant code for the democratic constitutions in the Global North. One may even say migration has become the social question of the 21st century. It overlaps with the established social conflicts related to distributive justice, cultural self-description, norm and value orientation, and the political perception of ‘the other.’
