Goethe on demand: Double Exposure Simultaneities and solidarities

The film series “Double Exposure” deals with ambiguity, consonances and dissonances and what belongs together in what is different.

Still from “Trümmermädchen”: Through Gloria's lessons, the young women realize that they can only stand together, as a union of sisters, against the oppression of a male-dominated society. © Artkeim2 / UCM.ONE

Hidden epidemic
“Loneliness Can Affect Anyone”

Loneliness is seen as the hidden epidemic that followed the pandemic. Young people are also affected: according to a study, around one in three Germans between the ages of 18 and 53 feel lonely nowadays, and in some cases excluded. In our interview, the study’s author Lena Frembs explains the reasons why and proposes some possible solutions.

Alone in a crowd – just one of the consequences of Covid-19: since the pandemic, younger and middle-aged adults have been more likely to be affected by loneliness and feel excluded. Photo (detail): © Adobe Photo (detail): © Adobe

Women at work

For a long time, the image of women in cinema was shaped by traditional role models and was mainly defined in the context of romantic and social relationships. Women in working environments with identifiable professions were rarely shown – an image that corresponded to the social reality in the West. The situation was different in the so-called East. On the occasion of this year's 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the film selection puts perspectives from the GDR in dialog with films from the 2000s to the present day.
