Curatorial Intensive South Asia

Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan and Khoj International Artists’ Association invite applications from early and mid-career curators to apply for the sixth edition of the Curatorial Intensive South Asia (CISA) programme – reimagined as a month-long, fully-funded, in situ research residency programme at Khoj Studios in New Delhi, India.

IMPORTANT TIMELINES

The residency at Khoj will have two phases:

Phase I:
Research, Mentoring & Project Development Phase

In Phase I, the curators will be introduced to foundational modules, along with museum and studio visits, galleries, and other relevant institutions.
Dates: 15th September to 15th October 2024

Phase II:
Outcome Showcase

Dates: March/April 2025

Participation in the residential programme and the showcasing component is mandatory.
A completion certificate shall be granted only upon the successful realisation of both components.

ELIGIBILITY

Five curators from across South Asia will be selected by an external jury as a part of the residency.
  • Applicants residing in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Iran) are eligible to apply.
  • The language of instruction will be English.
  • 5 applicants will be selected.
  • Applicants must have realised 2-4 curatorial projects.
OR
  • Applicants should have completed a course in the humanities (anthropology, art history, cultural studies, musicology, literature, or other relevant fields).
  • Successful applicants will be chosen by a jury. The course will be held in Delhi, India.

WHAT WILL BE COVERED?

This is a fully-funded opportunity. Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan and Khoj will cover:
  • Travel to and from New Delhi for both phases of the fellowship,
  • A modest per diem for living expenses and travel will be provided,
  • Each fellow will receive a showcase grant for the second phase, subject to the approval of the proposals by the jury.
  • The participating curators will be provided with independent studio spaces to work on their proposals and public-facing event(s) during the residency period.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. A letter of motivation stating your personal drive as well as your expectations of the programme (max. 300 words),
  2. A curatorial proposal that will be developed during the Fellowship (max. 500 words),
  3. An updated CV or Resume,
  4. A portfolio of 2-4 curatorial projects; this can include texts, images, catalogues, etc.,
  5. 2 reference contacts (name, relationship to the applicant, email, and phone number).
All documents must be submitted in English.
