Reading Group | Tue, 07/23, 6PM | Goethe-Institut Chicago BOOK*ISH

Welcome to book*ish, our new reading group for contemporary German graphic novels! Our first book discussion will kick off on July 23rd with Aisha Franz’s graphic novel “Work-Life-Balance,” which was published in 2022 and awarded the "Max und Moritz-Preis" for Best German Graphic Novel. Franz explores the tangled lives of Anita, Rex, and Sandra, three disparate souls bound together by their eccentric therapist's misguided attempts at “healing”.

The book and discussion will be in German. We have a limited number of print copies that can be borrowed for free, and you can also purchase your own copy from several bookstores online; please see event webpage for more details.

Being Kafka

Why does Franz Kafka’s spell remain unbroken a hundred years after his death? Why do we still perceive Kafka as so modern and contemporary? Because Kafka wrote such beautiful letters? Because we love drama queens? Because we feel that the world has never been more Kafkaesque than it is today? Join us as we step into Kafka’s world! Be Kafka!
