German Film Festival x KinoFest 2023

Goethe-Institut Singapore is proud to present the 26th anniversary of one of the longest-running foreign film festivals in Singapore, the German Film Festival. This year, for the first time, we present a selection of films in collaboration with KinoFest, the new regional film festival initiated by Goethe-Institut, and our longtime partner, The Projector.

This year’s films are a tapestry of stories that weave together not merely a rich telling of contemporary German cinema, but glimpses into complex identities and realities that find themselves caught amid ever-changing multicultural landscapes.

After a sadistic hiring process, Empress Elisabeth takes Countess Irma as her new lady-in-waiting. This wild reinterpretation of the ‘Sisi’ myth is a world with women at its centre—their complex relationships, and the powers to which they are inevitably subject.
