Henrike Grohs Art Award 2020

In 2020, the winners were selected by a jury made up of Gabi Ngcobo (South Africa), Paula Nascimento (Angola) and Sarah Rifky (Egypt). The main prize winner 2020 is Jackie Karuti. She received 20.000€ and 10.000€ towards a publication with the two runners up each receiving 5.000€.

The Jury 2020

Paula Nascimento (Architect and Independent Curator, Angola), Gabi Ngcobo (Curator and Educator, South Africa) and Sarah Rifky (Writer and Curator, Egypt) were the jury members for the 2nd Henrike Grohs Art Award. The jury selected the top three prize winners from the shortlist of 20 artists. ​

Shortlist 2020

Twenty artists were chosen by the selection committee made up of Nkule Mabaso (Curator at Michaelis Galleries, South Africa), Serubiri Moses (Independent Curator, Uganda) and Yves Makongo (Project Manager at Doual'art, Cameroon) from a pool of over 400 applications.

Covid-19 Artist Fellowships

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 award ceremony was held digitally. The remaining funds were redistributed as scholarships of 500€ each to the top 17 shortlisted artists.
