Ta’ziz Partnership

The Ta’ziz Partnership, supported by the Goethe-Institut, aims to strengthen and support civil society actors in Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Mauretania, and Egypt through cultural and educational projects in cooperation with local partner organisations.

The project is funded by the German Foreign Office.

As part of the Ta'ziz partnership, which has been operating under the new name ZANMO (Cooperation with Civil Societies in Africa, Near and Middle East) since 2024, the Goethe-Institut aims to promote civil society actors in the Middle East and North Africa region through cultural and educational projects together with local partner organisations. The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The Arabic term Ta'ziz (تعزيز) means ‘strengthening’ or ‘consolidation’. In this sense, the program aims to strengthen civil society structures and support social processes in the project countries in a needs-oriented, cooperative and sustainable manner. To achieve this goal, the Ta'ziz Partnership promotes the cultural and educational sector, trains young people and key actors, and provides networking opportunities among each other and with actors from Germany and Europe. The initiatives aim to create spaces for the exchange of perspectives, creativity, innovation and training, and to encourage social participation and dialogue.

The Ta'ziz Partnership, previously known as the Transformation Partnership or Dialogue and Change, was established in 2012 as a result of the so-called Arab Spring. From 2024, the projects will be extended to the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region and will be renamed ZANMO. This stands for Cooperation with Civil Societies in Africa, Near and Middle East. Projects running from 2023 to the end of 2024 will continue to run under the old name, while all new projects starting in 2024 will run under the new funding name 'ZANMO'.
