we are pleased to present you with a selection of the activities of the Goethe-Institut Irak in our October newsletter and wish you an interesting read.

Literature and Discourse

Baghdad

Chai Talk

On Fridays, people interested in literature and culture come together on Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. In October, the Mada Foundation and the Goethe-Institut Iraq are once again inviting people to the regular Chai Talks in Mutanabbi Street at 11 AM. Two events will take place on October 4 and 18 as part of the Chai Talks.

Erbil

Al-Mada Reading Club

On October 5 and 26, the Goethe-Institut Irak and the al-Mada Reading Club invite you to the regular meetings of the reading club in Erbil.
The events are a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Iraq and the al-Mada Reading Club and start at 6 PM at Café Nazdar Hayran in Erbil. The events will be held in Arabic.

Sulaymaniyah

Learn German in Sulaymaniyah!

On November 5, an A1 German course will start at the Cultural Factory in the heart of the city.
Enrolment is now possible at the course office in Erbil and on October 27 and 28 directly in Sulaymaniah.

Concerts and Exhibitions

Erbil

Helan

This October, as part of the Helan exhibition and concert series, you can look forward to events at the Framing Photojournalism School in Erbil on October 5 and 12. Photographer Peshraw Mahdi will kick things off with his photo exhibition on the subject of water and drought. The Helan Rooftop Concerts will continue on October 12.

Helan is a project of the Goethe-Institut Irak in cooperation with the Framing Photojournalism School and the Sêv Gallery.

Film

Erbil

KultKino/CinéClub

On October 10 and 24 at 6 PM, the Goethe-Institut Iraq and the Institut Français d'Irak à Erbil invite you to the KultKino/Ciné Club at the French Institute in Erbil. The program includes the French film À Plein Temps, which tells the moving story of a single mother, and the German film Krabat, which takes us into the dark world of an orphan boy.
Both films will be shown in their original language with English subtitles at the Institut Français d'Irak à Erbil.

Erbil

European Languages Day 2024

Once again, the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Institut Français d'Irak in Erbil joined to celebrate the diversity of European languages. On September 28 from 11 AM at the Erbil International Hotel, visitors were able to learn their first sentences in various new languages, test their knowledge in games and participate in a colorful program.
The third edition of the European Language Day offered numerous opportunities for exchange and personal encounters in a friendly atmosphere. Since its launch in 2001, European Language Day has been celebrated worldwide in September and promotes understanding of the diversity of languages.
