Dear reader,

We are pleased to present you with a selection of the activities of the Goethe-Institut Irak in our July newsletter and wish you an interesting lecture.

Exhibition

Helan

On Saturday, July 6, at 8 PM at Framing Photojournalism School in Erbil, the Helan exhibition by the artist Bahez Namiq Ali, will be opened. In his paintings he expresses the tragedy of daily life and its beauty by upcycling materials and transforming them into works of art.
The exhibition takes place within the framework of the Helan Project, a project of the Goethe-Institut Irak in collaboration with Sêv Gallery and the Framing Photojournalism School.

Chai Talk

On July 12 and 26 at 11 AM, people interested in literature and culture are invited to Chai Talk at the Mada House on Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad.
The Chai Talk is a series of events organized by the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Mada Group for Media, Culture and Art.

Activity for Kids

Bulbul

On July 11 at 6 PM, the children's event Bulbul will take 6-9 year old participants into the realm of fantasy.In the book "Sei doch mal still", a brother and sister search for peace and quietness in a hectic world by discovering that quietness can also be found in self-reflection and mindfulness. We work with colors and different materials to realize the idea. 

Bulbul is a project of the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Sêv Gallery and will take place in the Sêv Gallery.

Erbil

Al-Mada Reading Club

On both 13 and 27 of July, Goethe-Institut Irak and al-Mada Reading Club are inviting to their regular events. On July 13, poetry lovers will be in for a treat in a poetry evening with musical accompaniment, and on July 20 we will start a new three-part series, this time on the topic of "biographies."

The event is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Irak and al-Mada Reading Club and will take place at 6 PM in Nazdar Hayran in Erbil.

Film

KultKino / Ciné Club

East Berlin in the 1970s - Micha and his friends grow up between state surveillance and secretly consumed pop culture. Director Leander Haußmann's debut film from 1999 is a humorous coming of age against a backdrop that is not always historically accurate but nonetheless convincing. It was awarded the German Film Prize 2000 and the rating "particularly valuable", among others.

The film will be shown on July 11 in German with English subtitles at the Institut francais d’Irak in Erbil, with the screening starting at 6 PM.

Looking back on...

Choman Festival

On June 20 and 21, the musicians of the bands Yasna and 12 Jazz created a unique festival atmosphere with concerts and spontaneous jam sessions in front of the mountain backdrop in Choman.
The festival took place as part of Helan, a project of the Goethe-Institut Irak in cooperation with the Sêv Gallery and the Framing Photojournalism School.

Creating prospects – conference for teachers and skilled workers

At the conference “Creating prospects – successfully qualifying together” on June 8, 2024, teachers and skilled workers took part in lectures and workshops to learn more about topics such as the Skilled Workers Immigration Act, studying in Germany, tips for teaching regional topics in German lessons, and offers on living and working in Germany.
