Dear reader,

we are pleased to present you with a selection of the activities of the Goethe-Institut Irak in our September newsletter and wish you an interesting read.

Teaching and learning German

Digital Certificates

The official certificates of the German exams of the Goethe-Institut Irak are now available in digital form. The certificates can be easily downloaded from your personal account on meingoethe.de after passing the exam and are also valid in this form for official institutions such as German embassies.
The certificates can be checked for validity at www.goethe.de/verify.

European Language Day

Once again, the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Institut Français d'Irak à Erbil are celebrating the diversity of European languages together.
Come to the Erbil International Hotel on September 28 from 11 AM, learn your first sentences in new languages, test your knowledge in games and take part in the varied program.

Film

KultKino/CinéClub

Attention film lovers: the German-French film screenings will take place again on September 19 at 6 PM. In ‘Good Bye, Lenin’ by Wolfang Becker, the protagonist plays an intact GDR to his mother - as she fell into a coma shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall and would probably not be able to cope with the shock of the end of communist Germany.
The film will be shown in the original language with English subtitles at the French Institute in Erbil.

Concerts and Exhibitions

Helan Rooftop Sessions

As part of the Helan activities, you can expect a new concert at the Framing Photojournalism School in Erbil on September 21 at 7 PM. Details about the concert will be published on our social media channels.
Helan is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Iraq, the Sêv Gallery and the Framing Photojournalism School.

Literature and Discourse

Chai Talk

On Fridays, people interested in literature and culture meet at the Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. On September 20, the Goethe-Institut Irak and al-Mada are once again inviting people to the regular Chai Talk at 11 AM in the al-Mada House. This time, the young artist Youssef Al-Aqabi will talk about “Expressionism” and will give insights into his experience and the challenges of his artistic career.

Erbil

Al-Mada Reading Club

On September 21 and 28, the Goethe-Institut Irak and the al-Mada Reading Club invite you to the regular events of the reading club in Erbil.
The event is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Irak and the al-Mada Reading Club and will take place at 6 PM at the Nazdar Hayran Café in Erbil.

Review

Sulaymaniyah

Design Academy 2024

During this year's Design Academy in Sulaymaniyah, which took place from September 8 to 13, the participants took an active role in the communication and promotion of a concert: how can design and music be combined and which communication strategies are suitable? The young designers engaged in an active exchange, learned about innovative working methods and implemented their results in practice.

Design Academy Iraq 2024 is a project of the Goethe-Institut Irak, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and is being carried out in partnership with the University of Bremen and the University of Sulaymaniyah.

PASCH Students in Germany

On July 28, it was time for 12 German Language learners from the PASCH schools in Iraq to pack their bags! During a three-week study trip to Germany, the young students took part in language courses and cultural events in Dresden and Pforzheim together with PASCH students from all over the world.

The initiative “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) connects a global network of more than 2,000 PASCH schools with special ties to Germany. The Goethe-Institut supports around 600 PASCH schools in the national education systems of over 100 countries.
