Helan

Erbil: Saturdays at 7 P.M.

Helan Dates in June

Our Helan exhibition and concert series continues: new events await visitors at the Framing Photojournalism School in Erbil every Saturday in June. 
First of June's Helan artists will be on June 3 the singer Mohamed Majed. 
Helan is a project of the Goethe-Institut Iraq carried out in cooperation with the Framing Photojournalism School and Sêv Gallery.

Chai Talk Baghdad: Dates in May

Literature and culture enthusiasts regularly meet for the Chai Talks on Mutanabbi Street, organised by the Goethe-Institut Iraq and Al-Mada Foundation in Baghdad.
On 9 June, Chai Talks welcomes Dr. Karin Radner, an Assyriology professor and leading German researcher on Ashur and the archaeological cooperation surrounding it. Dr. Radner teaches at the LMU Munich, has authored numerous works on the ancient history of Mesopotamia, and frequently leads excavations in Iraq.
Culture lovers might also want to keep the morning of 23 June free again.

Erbil: June 3

German Teachers' Day

On 3 June, the Goethe-Institut will hold its first German Teachers’ Day in Iraq. In workshops, teachers have the opportunity to explore the use of innovative teaching methods and tools that help them create a modern learning environment in their own classrooms. 

German-French Cooperation

KultKino / Ciné Club

On 1 and 8 June, the Goethe-Institut Iraq and the Institut Français d’Irak à Erbil invite you to a new KultKino/Ciné Club event at the French institute in Erbil. The programme features the French movie Felicità by Bruno Merle in June 1 as well as the German film Deutschlandreise by Wolfgang Ettlich on June 8. Both movies are shown in their original language version with English subtitles. 

Jinda

The band Yasna, known for its fresh interpretations of Kurdish music, was the feature act of a Jinda concert on 17 May, organised by the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Institut Français d’Irak à Erbil in the Citadel. Looking back on...

Music in May

The month of May treated us to a variety of music events: Alongside the Halabja music festival, the Khani concert with Dana Muhedin and Riyad Osman in Sulaymaniyah, and the Jinda concert in Erbil, a masterclass took place for musicians and conductors from Baghdad and Sulaymaniyah, facilitated by the conductors and composers Hans Rotman and Lorenzo Ghirlanda. The masterclass placed particular emphasis on group improvisation and communication within the orchestra.

Film Residency

The Goethe-Institut’s residencies in Iraq serve to strengthen the exchange and networking efforts of local cultural professionals with their European colleagues. In this year’s film residency, 4-14 June, 25 young film producers, directors, and screenwriters from Iraq will engage in exchange and cooperation with the filmmakers and producers Peter Ott, Omar El Kadi, and Mano Khalil over the course of ten days. 

Call Multaka Kids

Applications for the Multaka Kids Project, realised in collaboration with the Iraqi National Museum in Baghdad, will remain open until 13 June. The project launches with a three-day workshop in Baghdad for education professionals. Participants will work together with international experts in museum pedagogy to develop concepts and ideas that can render museums a place of learning and experience for children.

The Goethe-Institut Iraq will remain closed on 28 and 29 June on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
