We are pleased to present a selection of activities of the Goethe-Institut Irak in our newsletter and hope you enjoy reading the April 2024 issue.

Announcements

Baghdad

Concert

On April 19, the Goethe-Institut Irak and Bait al-Hikma invite to a concert with the two musicians Saad Jawad (Oud) and Basim Hawar (Djoze) in the al-Shaab Hall in Baghdad.
The occasion is the 1,300th anniversary of the founding of the city of Baghdad. The concert starts at 8 p.m.

Literature

International Bookfair Erbil

From April 17 to 27, the Goethe-Institut Irak will take part in the International Book Fair in Erbil, which is organized by al-Mada publishing house.
In addition to a stand at the fair where activities related to the German language are offered, the Goethe-Institut Irak participates with events on the main stage, such as a reading by German-Iraqi author Najem Wali. Details about the program will be communicated daily on the social media channels.

Halabja

Conzert

As in the previous two years, the Goethe-Institut Irak together with local partners will again be organizing a music festival in Halabja in 2024. On April 27th from 7 p.m. the sounds of young Kurdish musicians will fill the city's park. You can find out more about the topic in the linked article.

Erbil

24 hours of German

24 hours of German - this means speaking German, playing together, watching films, attending trial lessons and finding out more about the activities and offers by Goethe-Institut Irak when it comes to German! On April 26 and 27 it's that time again: from 2 pm to 2 pm the following day, German learners, German speakers and anyone interested in Germany are welcome to take part in 24 Hours of German!

Helan

On Sunday, April 21, art lovers can expect another Helan exhibition opening. The event starts at 7 pm.

Baghdad

Music Workshops

Oud and Djoze musicians can apply until April 6 to take part in the workshops with the Germany-based artists Saad Mahmood Jawad (Oud) and Bassem Hawar (Djoze) in Baghdad. The workshops will take place April 16 to 18 and will focus on dynamics, solo and ensemble playing.

Erbil

Literary Writing

Literary writers can apply until April 10 to take part in the writing workshop in Arabic with the German-Iraqi writer Najem Wali. The workshop will take place in Erbil from April 22 to 26 with the theme “writing a place”.

Information

Goethe-Institut Irak will be closed August 4-18.
