Educational Fair

Erbil

M.E.E.T.S.: Educational Fair

The Goethe-Institut Irak was represented at the education fair M.E.E.T.S. in Erbil, held 25–28 July. Fair visitors had the opportunity to receive helpful information and advice on German courses and examinations, on life in Germany, as well as on our digital library Onleihe. Moreover, quizzes, trial lessons, and reading sessions provided plenty of interactive fun.

German-French Cooperation

Koral Mesopotamia

KORAL MESOPOTAMIA is a choir ensemble whose singers devote themselves to the musical heritage of Iraq. The group, composed of members from all over Iraq, is developing a repertoire that incorporates Arab, Kurdish, Turkmen, and Assyrian songs in arrangements of several voices. Opera singer Faten Ahmed conducts the rehearsals, while the Franco-German trainers music pedagogy professor Bernhard Hofmann from the University of Augsburg, and ethnomusicologist Luna Silva from Paris provide training. Having been launched in the spring, the choir had another week of rehearsals in July. In autumn, the group will be ready to present the fruits of their hard work in Baghdad and Erbil live on stage.

This project is being implemented within the scope of the Franco-German Cultural Fund of the Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français d’Irak.

Looking back on...

Film Residency

During the 10-day film residency in June, young film producers, directors, and screenwriters from across Iraq met with the filmmakers and producers Peter Ott, Omar El Kadi, Eva Knopf, and Mano Khalil.

In addition to an intensive thematic and technical sharing of knowledge, they embarked together on a programme which included a study trip to Rawanduz as well as public screenings with Q&A sessions for Peter Ott’s film The Milan Protocol and Omar Khalil’s Neighbours.
