TECHNO WORLDS

Join us for a guided tour of the TECHNO WORLDS exhibition!

Techno as a global phenomenon has shaped the history of music since its beginnings in the early 1980s, remaining culturally influential in the spheres of contemporary art, pop culture, media consumption, and technology. Techno is a music form, but it’s about far more than music. The ethos of techno reverberates in design and fashion, philosophy and subculture; it informs our relationships to machines and virtual space; it enables us to imagine political-emancipatory projects and create ruins and fissures in hegemonic norms. Techno scenes reflect the social and economic structures in which they originate, and they offer us alternative visions of life and time that transcend borders. Techno has been and remains a force for political and cultural change.

On view at Rio Hotel & Cinema Complex

The works presented at Rio Hotel & Cinema Complex are inspired by themes such as the history and sound of techno music, communities and network, techno and design and underground rave culture. An additional section on the event series Pettah Interchange 2012 -2016 reminds of the club culture event series conducted in Colombo by the Goethe-Institut and its partners. The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of film screenings, conversations and performances.
