Dear readers,

It is with great pleasure that we announce the grantees of our Open Call for artistic projects 2024. We have selected 10 projects with different art forms and from more and less established artists. You will hear a lot more about the projects during this year and we are very excited to see the project outcomes.

Our intern Alice Uzayisenga finished her internship towards the end of July and will go back to Germany for her studies. We want to thank her for her sincrely fpr her engagement and wish her all the best for the future.
After one year, our volunteer Alice Rümmler is also leaving at the end of August. We will miss her. All the best, dear Alice!

Therefore we are warm-heartetly welcoming our two new interns Lotta Barth and Vasco Grampp. Both will be assisting in the Cultural Programme until the end of the year.

We would also like to remind you of the opportunity to apply for the International Coproduction Fund. Artists who are interested in an international co-production and would like to develop their project collaboratively and in an interdisciplinary format can still apply until September 1st.

Finally, a huge THANKS goes to Mr Peter Gyr, who has generously donated a lot of German books for our bookshelves. German learners as well as native speakers are welcome to borrow them from us on site.

The dance and theater piece Faded was performed for the first time in Rwanda at the Ubumuntu Arts Festival 2024. It is a collaboration of performers from almost all East African countries: DRC, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and encourages the audience to reflect on the need to whiten the skin in order to "belong". The performance of the four dancers with their impressive and masterful movements conveyed a range of emotions from body shame to insecurity to self-confident posing. The performance was accompanied by a poem that kept coming back to: "I am who I choose to be".
