Invitation to an artistic workshop: A Worn World

Invitation to an artistic workshop: A Worn World
© Goethe-Institut Saudi Arabien

We invite interested people of all ages and cultural backgrounds to take part in our artistic workshops as part of the international project "A Worn World". There, stories and experiences on the subject of clothing are exchanged and artistically processed. Over the course of 3 hours, we will discuss what we like to wear, what memories and experiences our clothes harbour, how they shape us and carry us through the world. In workshops, we will create small self-made personal "fashion magazines" and other works of art. The event will take place at the L’Art Pur Foundation, Riyadh.

"A Worn World" is an ongoing and international art project by the artist couple deufert&plischke (Germany) It takes up themes that are addressed through clothing. In close contact with the skin, our sensitive organ that wears it, clothing is a direct expression of personal self-assurance: it expresses our stories and memories, refers to our cultures and specific places, it reflects sociological and economic realities and it reinforces our sense of belonging.

The "A Worn World" project has already been successfully staged in Montreal/Canada, Los Angeles/USA and Kuopio/Finland, and is now coming to Riyadh.

Choose one of these workshops and take part in the "A Worn World" project!

The artists

deufert&plischke

Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke have been working as an artist duo at the interface of dance, society and media since 2001. Their works are created using choreography, photography, text and video and are unconditional commitments to the participatory process.

As artist twins, deufert&plischke have cooperated with each other and with others from the very beginning - their performances and transdisciplinary works are always created in dialogue, questioning the hierarchy between artists and audience and creating new spaces in which there is room for the imagination of those involved. The spectrum ranges from the long durational performance in the gallery space to theatrical installations for participation in the museum to the collective invention of an artist in a small town or even an entire village. deufert&plischke curate festivals and their formats and series tour the world. Despite all the complexity on and off the stage, collaboration remains the core principle and a consistent aesthetic in which a playful confusion is always recognisable. Over the years, the works have become increasingly open and permeable, but no less conceptual - without allowing themselves to be subordinated to a specific label. The artist duo brings their audience to action and reflection, demonstrating like no other how entertaining illegibility can be.
