Missing Black Technofossil Here illuminates the memories and narratives of Black Canadians across civic spaces. As an artist and multidisciplinary visual griot, Quentin VerCetty researches the lack of monuments of Black Canadians, and the implications of such gaps in African diasporic memory. By combining 3D printing, digital art, and augmented reality, VerCetty engages broader public audiences in the process of reimagining public spaces across Canada.
The first phase of Quentin VerCetty’s project resulted in a 3D virtual monument, Ancestral Technofossil, constructed with images and audio stories about Black leaders and heritage sites. VerCetty’s monument could be accessed on walking tours in Toronto and Montreal that activated public sites with missing Pan-Africanist histories through augmented reality.
