Among the groups that do not have a significant voice are small and family-owned businesses - which is ironic considering that they are the collectively the largest employers in most countries.
With the pandemic, climate change and digital disruption challenging the operating norms of small businesses at the same time, there is a need to strengthen their capacity to take a more active role in shaping the direction of smart city initiatives in their specific locales.
This capacity building initiative takes the form of an open-source toolkit for small businesses to take the initiative in the twin domains of Sustainability and Digitalization.
