Around nine years before the fall of the Wall: Barbara, a doctor from Berlin, had applied to leave the GDR. She was imprisoned and, after her release in the summer of 1980, punitively transferred to a provincial hospital. While her lover from the West prepares to flee across the Baltic Sea, Barbara works in pediatric surgery, frequently observed and often controlled. Her new boss, André, seems to cooperate with state security agents - but how far would he go in an emergency? At least he seems to approve of Barbara's commitment to the young outsider Stella. Is he in love with his colleague?
