FATHER'S SEA - Book Talk with Deniz Utlu

Portraits of author Deniz Utlu and artist Philippa Hughes with event announcement Deniz Utlu: Heike Steinweg; Philippa Hughes: private
We invite you to the book presentation and discussion. Let’s connect and network over light refreshments.

Deniz Utlu’s novel Father’s Sea explores the deep relationship between a father and son in the context of Germany and Turkey. The story is told through Yunus, who deals with his father's illness while reflecting on their lives together.
As Yunus thinks back on his father's experiences and his own growth, the narrative shows how memories shape their connection. Utlu’s storytelling highlights the political and social issues in both countries, while also touching on universal themes like love, loss, and remembrance.

Join the discussion at the Goethe-Institut Washington about this moving book! Doors open at 6.30pm, the event starts at 7pm.

This event is proudly supported by the Friends of Goethe (FoGI).

Part of the Festival “Longing / Belonging”

Stories of migration characterize our modern societies, in which people from different cultural backgrounds search for belonging. Cultural diversity is celebrated on the one hand, but at the same time new social boundaries are emerging. The Goethe-Institut's “Longing/Belonging” festival presents artistic contributions and social discourses from Germany and North America.
