Born in Berlin in 1972, Nicolette Krebitz started her film career at the age of 11 and studied acting at the Fritz-Kirchhoff-Schule. She played unusual characters in niche films before making her directorial debut with Jeans in 2001. In 2007, she directed her second film, the experimental and much-praised drama The Heart Is a Dark Forest starring Nina Hoss. Her third feature, Wild, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016. At the 2017 German Film Awards, Wild won Best Sound Design, Best Male Supporting Role, Best Cinematographer, and the Lola in Bronze for Best Feature Film. For Wild Krebitz also won the Bavarian Film Award for Best Director and the Günter Rohrbach Film Award for Best Film.
