- What is expected from Retas Budaya activities?
Retas Budaya aims to make Indonesian cultural data freely accessible so that it can be used and modified by anyone for commercial as well as non-commercial purposes. When cultural data has been opened and can be used by anyone, the public is encouraged to use their imagination to produce something creative and innovative from the open data.
- Who can participate in Retas Budaya?
There are two ways to participate. You can participate as an individual by taking part in the creative events or as GLAM institutions interested in learning more about open data. Anyone, not limited to profession or age, can take part in a series of events held by Retas Budaya.
- What public events will Retas Budaya hold?
We have prepared various workshops in which the public can play around with open cultural data. More information about these events will be published soon.

- What are the benefits of Retas Budaya for our institution?
If your institution’s mission is to provide education to the public, we will help you carry out this mission. In addition, opening your data collection can also increase the your institution’s visibility.
- Why participate in Retas Budaya activities?
Retas Budaya aims to open Indonesian cultural data for the public. If your institution opens its cultural data, you will be contributing greatly to education and to the cultural development of Indonesia.
- Our institution is eager to participate, but we have some obstacles. Can we get help?
We have prepared guides, text resources, and webinar series to help address the challenges and problems that your institutions face in opening up your cultural collections.
- What do we have to do to participate in the Retas Budaya?
You simply register here (link to form to leave email) and we will contact you shortly.
- Our institution has a strict and complicated bureaucracy. It will be difficult for us to participate this year, but we would like to participate in the future. Is that possible?

- How much does it cost to participate?
All Retas Budaya activities are free of charge. However, due to limited space, participants must register first.
- What are the criteria for becoming a Retas Budaya participant?
There are no specific criteria for participating in Retas Budaya activities—you only need an open mind and great curiosity.
- I am not a developer and not a player in the creative industry. Can I participate?
Yes. Anyone—no matter what your occupation is—can take part in Retas Budaya activities.
- Do I have to have a portfolio beforehand to participate?
No need. Whether you have experience or not, you can take part in Retas Budaya activities.
- What will I gain by participating in Retas Budaya?
You will get to create something using open cultural data, and you will be able to network and collaborate with cultural activists.
- What licenses can I use on the work I create in the context of Retas Budaya?
In accordance with Retas Budaya’s mission of supporting open data, all works created during Cultural Retas activities are required to use an open license of Creative Commons International Similar Sharing Attribution 4.0 (CC-BY-SA 4.0 International). Other people are permitted to use, share and modify your work for any purpose, including commercial interests. You cannot cancel this license at a later date. You retain the copyright, not Retas Budaya. More about Creative Commons licenses can be read here.
- Can I commercialize my work?
Yes, you can, but digital copies of your work will still be available online under the CC-BY-SA license mentioned above. This means that other people can still download, use, share and modify your work for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
- How do I register to become a Retas Budaya participant?
The registration is not yet open. All of the information on registration will be announced on this website.
