David Odiase
David Osaodion Odiase is a multidisciplinary poet challenging stereotypes about Africa and its people utilising film, performance, visual, and experimental art forms to highlight the dangers of one-sided narratives and Afrocentric perspectives, countering historical and cultural misinterpretations. Rather than dwelling on blame, his projects priorities the human aspect, fostering audience inclusivity, particularly when addressing colonial injustices, genocide, cultural literacy, and human rights.
Odiase's projects have been showcased internationally, including at film festivals like the African International Film Festival and the Zebra Poetry Festival. He has also performed at prestigious venues such as the National Poetry Library in the UK and the Lagos International Poetry Festival. Notable projects include the Drumming New Worlds Collective and the BDNDSSHR Project advocating for the return of stolen African artifacts.
Odiase's contributions have earned him awards like the Kudo Eresia-Eke Performance Poetry Prize and recognition in competitions like the Poetry Archive Now! Worldview. He currently resides as an artist at the Edo Global Art Foundation and serves as the community curator of TrueMyVoice, promoting storytelling for social change. He will work on his piece In My Mother Tongue, There Are No Horcruxes in Mexico City, Mexico.
