Nusasonic HCMC
Nusasonic is coming to a close, after five years of diving into experimental sound and music cultures in Southeast Asia, with the aim of enabling dialogue within the region and beyond. Running 5-8 October 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City, the initiative’s closing event is titled Nusasonic HCMC, and is co-curated by Zach Sch of Saigon-based collective Rắn Cạp Đuôi.
Nusasonic HCMC features artists: ANTARMUKA (SG), Chaulichi (VN), Cheryl Ong (SG), Elisha Tiga (BN), Hoàng Tuấn (VN), Kadapat (ID), Khyam Allami (DE), Libya Montes (PH), Lưu Thanh Duy (VN), Lynn Nandar Htoo (MM), mess. (VN), Nuh Peace (TH), Nodey (VN), Nursalim Yadi Anugerah (ID), Rắn Cạp Đuôi (VN), rEmPiT g0dDe$$ (MY), Phạm Thế Vũ (VN), Pilgrim Raid (VN), Puppy Ri0t (VN), Tusa Montes (PH), WRITHER (VN), and Zach Sch (VN).
At the core of the multi-day festival is a group workshop and collaborative performance and workshop and collaborative performance led by Berlin-based musician and researcher Khyam Allami. The workshop sees artists previously involved in Nusasonic’s Common Tonalities workshop and album release joined with local Vietnamese artists to explore the subject of tuning and how it relates to modern-day sonic technologies and music-making. The public is invited to the finale performance resulting from this two-day workshop, as well as to multiple talks and a closing club night.
