Liew Niyomkarn
Liew Niyomkarn is a sound artist and musician based in Antwerp. Her work focuses on listening practice and the conveyance of memories through sound. She uses field recordings to detect time, (non)-human voices, everyday routines, text, archrival sounds, and different tuning systems in nature, and presents her work in the form of live performances and sound installations. She has taught graphic score workshops and made a radio show with a long-term collaborator, Velma Spell.
Niyomkarn holds an MFA from Calarts and Sonology in The Hague. She has performed in many spaces such as High Zero Festival (Baltimore), Studio Loos (Den Haag), WORM (Rotterdam), STUK (Belgium), DAAD (Berlin), The Wulf (Los Angeles), Toneelhuis (Antwerp), among other.
