The Goethe-Institute in Cairo is looking for a committed freelance Social Media Editor for the regional magazine RUYA. The job is initially limited until 31.12.2025, with a possible extension for 2026.

RUYA is the online multimedia magazine of the Goethe-Institute in the Arab speaking countries in North Africa and the Middle East. The focus is set on topics that move people in the region and beyond. Intercultural dialogue and the exploration of new perspectives on current social issues are at the heart of the magazine.

The social media editor develops and maintains the platform’s social media presence. In this role, you will be required to develop content and marketing strategies, engage with the users, analyze user engagement and activity, and ensure consistency in the platform’s digital tone and image.

Social Media Editor Tasks

  • Managing the RUYA social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube); content management and scheduling
  • Conception, research, development, and design of target group-oriented social media content (text, image, audio, and video)
  • Developing and maintaining a consistent brand tone, image, and style online; quality assurance
  • Designing social media marketing strategies and campaigns; reviewing and interpreting social analytics
  • Facilitate online conversations with audience and respond to queries on social media and via e-mail
  • Researching audience preferences and discover current trends to further develop social media activities
  • Actively raise the profile of the publication

Social Media Editor Requirements

  • Arabic native speaker, very good knowledge of English (German and French are optional)
  • Proven expertise and experience in content creation for social media  
  • Proven editorial and journalistic expertise
  • Knowledge of the latest social media trends
  • Ability to create creative and high-quality reels and social media posts
  • Good knowledge of the MENA region
  • Owning a high-quality smartphone or camera is an advantage
  • Committed, organized, precise, reliable and flexible
This job is on a freelance service contract basis. The job doesn’t require you to be in a certain place and can be done 100% remotely. Remuneration is based on the remuneration scheme of the Goethe-Institute Cairo.
