The Atom Araullo Specials: Bird Hunt

Universitas dan Umum

The lush tropical forests of the Philippines are home to over 500 species of birds – 200 of which can be found nowhere else in the world. Many of these birds, however, are in danger of extinction. In Mindanao, the largest eagle in the world – the Philippine Eagle, declared as critically-endangered – is not only threatened by poaching and hunting. One juvenile Philippine eagle was found dead after it was electrocuted in the power grid that has now encroached into its habitat. Meanwhile, in Surigao, the documentary team made another startling discovery – the Mindanao hornbill, which was presumed extinct, was not only spotted in the wild, one was also seen chained to a post outside a house.
