An Architectural Walking Tour

1 Spring Street, Melbourne

As part of German Week Melbourne, we are offering a special city tour in which we focus on buildings designed by architects from German-speaking countries.

Join architect Shelley Freeman on a walking tour in the City of Melbourne to uncover examples of contemporary and historical architecture; existing, demolished and unbuilt projects; and engage in a conversation about them and the experience of migration and cultural heritage.

Shelley has a passion for art and architecture from the German-speaking regions.  She was born to a German mother and spent several years studying architecture in Austria. Her connection to this cultural heritage even extends to where she lives in the wonderful Stanhill Building,  located just up St Kilda Road from the Goethe-Institut, Stanhill is a groundbreaking modern apartment building designed by Swiss émigré Architect, Frederick Romberg.

Other architects we will be exploring include Harry Seidler, J.A.B. Koch, Karl Popper, Kirsten Thompson and Inge King.
