As part of German Week Melbourne we are excited to invite you to join us on a  guided tour through Melbourne Botanical Garden with a focus on the life and legacy of German botanist  Ferdinand von Mueller, the founder of these  magnificent gardens.  

Ferdinand von Mueller, born in Germany in 1825, emigrated to Australia and made significant contributions to the study of Australia’s unique flora. He was Victoria’s first Government Botanist and Director of the Melbourne Botanic Garden (as it was then known) from 1857–1873. He earned a considerable international reputation for his work in describing the Australian flora and is without doubt one of Australia's best-known nineteenth century scientists.

This tour offers an opportunity to explore both the botanical wonders and the historical context of Mueller’s work. .Join the knowledgeable guides of Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria as they share fascinating stories about Mueller’s life and his enduring impact on botany and conservation.
