Book Talk with Julia Schoch

Goethe-Institut Korea Library

“We have experienced thirty-one summers together. Six of them were called 'summer of the century' by the news.
During this time, we undertook 42 trips, and 27 times we traveled abroad.
We bought four kitchens.”

“The Couple of the Century,” the second part of Julia Schoch's planned trilogy “Biography of a Woman,” tells the story of a love that fades in the routine of everyday life, until it is no longer recognizable; the estrangement of a couple after 30 years of marriage.

First time in Korea, the German author Julia Schoch will read from her book and discuss her works and her writing process at the library of the Goethe-Institut Korea. How did this story come about? What similarities do her books have with her real life? Julia Schoch was born in 1974 in Bad Saarow and is considered a “virtuoso of memory storytelling” (FAZ). Her latest publications include the novels "The Incident" and “The Couple of the Century,” the first two volumes of the “Biography of a Woman.” On this evening, the author will be accompanied by Dr. Sung-hwa Kim. Sung-hwa Kim, Ph.D. is a lecturer of German Literature and Media Studies at the Department of German Language and Literature, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Seoul, Republic of Korea). Her main areas of research are literature and visual culture (graphic novels, caricatures, illustrations) and the adaptation of various media.
