Consequences aims to explore the dynamics of 'permanence' and 'change' with respect to heritage. It does so by initiating a dialogue with artisans to speculate on the future of the craft beyond the present as it continues towards decay, resilience, or transformation. The speculations are minted as NFTs to reach and involve a new set of audiences to think critically about heritage and heritagization. The project aims to expand to allow the audience to follow the story of the evolution of cultural heritage and invites the audience to engage with these speculations and co-imagine alternative futures for the craft.

Conversation with the Artists

What inspired your participation in the Chain Unchained Mintathon?
The Chain Unchained Mintathon came as a unique platform aiming to tackle questions about the intersection of cultural heritage and emergent technology futures. We were excited to delve into the questions that the project posed through our creative practice to highlight possible future scenarios of such intersection.

Can you share some of the key insights or takeaways from your collaborative project?
The project has been instrumental in unearthing issues of representation and access for diverse communities in the NFT and associated technology spaces. We delved into inherent challenges that heritage practitioners face and how these problems translate in technology-enabled creative domains. We began and continue to learn the complexities and scope that NFTs present for cultural heritage and the need to think critically, creatively and yet carefully about the coming together of these practices and phenomena.

What do you envision as the future plans for this project?
Our endeavour for the future of this project is to create online and offline opportunities for stories of traditional heritage practices and practitioners to intersect with creatives and communities fluent in emerging tools and mediums of expression, art and engagement. We believe that such intersections are imperative for meaningful discussions and informed speculations on the future of cultural heritage and how it not only gains but also contributes consequentially to emerging digital spaces.
