My favourite German word

As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai organized a photo contest "Mein deutsches Lieblingswort" for German learners. The last date of submission of entries was 20th September 2019. The prize distribution was held on 19th October 2019 during the jubilee celebrations.

Celebrating 50 years!

Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai celebrated 50 years in 2019. For us it is important to not only be contemporary in what we present to mark this occasion but also to have a connection with our history in the city. We therefore began our celebrations with an opening event at NCPA with key not speaker Homi Bhabha.

Nalini Malani: Can you hear me?

On occasion of its 50th annual celebration the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai presented Can You Hear Me? a solo exhibition from the internationally celebrated Indian artist Nalini Malani.

Concert by members of the Symphony Orchestra of India

The Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), based at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, is India’s first and only professional orchestra. It was founded in 2006 by NCPA Chairman Khushroo N. Suntook and internationally-renowned violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev, who serves as the Orchestra’s Music Director.

Merck-Tagore Award 2019

The public award ceremony was scheduled for 20th October 2019 during the 50 year jubilee of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai. This time the award was presented to Professor Kris K. Manjapra for his contribution towards intercultural exchange between India and Germany.

„Kala, Kala, Kala“ - video mapping at Kala Ghoda

This public art performance took place at the parking lot at Kala Ghoda and used the statue of the horse as a screen. Different artists and coders have created this work.

Alif and Almut in concert

Artists Alif and Ulrike Almut Sandig, known for their poetry and music, came together yet again for a collaborative concert to celebrate 50 years of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai.

VRwandlung: Gregor Samsa in Mumbai

The VR project “VRwandlung” is a combination of classic literature and modern technology. The project “VRwandlung” turns Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis”, one of the most influential novella of the 20th century, into a virtual reality experience.
