Description

One year after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the SED regime, the goal of West German post-war policy had been achieved: the reunification of the divided country. In 2020, the 30th anniversary of German Reunification was celebrated. This website provides you with information about this chapter of German-German history as well as teaching material for the exhibition "The Wall - A Border through Germany". This exhibition was produced by the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship East Germany (Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur) and by the newspapers BILD and DIE WELT in the year 2011 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. It showcases a number of impressive photographs and authentic documents. Teaching materials that allow you to integrate the subject into your classes are available as well.

The didactic material is divided into three parts:
First, a general introduction to the subject of the Berlin Wall: students will be introduced to the theme of the Berlin Wall in a general way.
The materials "The Wall - A Border Through Germany" then deal specifically with the contents of the exhibition. And finally, in the "More about the Berlin Wally" section, you will find additional worksheets that delve deeper into the topic. Students can find the answers either from in the contents of the exhibition or from other multimedia sources.
