Radio bridge 2024
Krakow

In October, the Goethe-Institut and rbb once again built a radio bridge together - this time between Berlin/Brandenburg and Poland. From October 7 to 10, radio3 and radioeins broadcasted two programs a day live from the Goethe-Institut in Krakow, with guests from politics and culture, interviews, reports and musical events.

How does the old Polish royal city on the Vistula deal with the millions of tourists who flock to its streets and tourist hotspots every year? Where can you find the best pirogi, zapiekanki or bigos? What is a must-see - even beyond the main market square Rynek, the royal residence on Wawel Hill and the old Jewish quarter Kazimierz? How do people in the city not far from Auschwitz, where one of the largest and oldest Jewish communities in Poland existed until the Second World War, view the massacre by the terrorist organization Hamas in Israel exactly one year ago? The presenters discussed this with many guests; Susanne Papawassiliu on radio3 from 9 to 10 a.m. and Marie Kaiser on radioeins from 3 to 7 p.m.

The radio bridge wanted to identify possible parallels, similar challenges but also differences between Berlin/Brandenburg and Poland/Krakow: Can you find an affordable apartment there or is gentrification also a Polish problem? What is the situation of the numerous Ukrainian and Belarusian refugees, some of whom have been living in the city for years? How is Krakow tackling climate change and how does it intend to achieve its goal of becoming one of 100 climate-neutral and smart cities in the EU by 2030? The rbb reporters Marta Kupiec and Julia Vismann wanted to get to the bottom of these and other questions.

Of course, music and Krakow's music scene once again played an important role in the radio bridge 2024. Each broadcast day ended with a short concert by Krakow musicians or bands, live from the Goethe-Institut library, which has been converted into a broadcast studio.
