Residency
Writer-in-residence in Reykjavik

From 1-31 March 2025, the Goethe-Institut Dänemark and UNESCO City of Literature Reykjavik will award a scholarship to an author from one of the following fields: fiction, poetry, drama and children’s books. The aim of this residency programme is to provide an opportunity to conduct research on a literary project that has Iceland as source of inspiration. The scholarship holder will have the opportunity to get to know the local literary scene, to establish contacts, and to exchange ideas.

Conditions of Funding

Authors with at least two published books, and at least one translation into English or a Scandinavian language, are eligible to apply. The applicant should live and work in Germany.

The scholarship grant for the entire period is 2.000 euros. In addition to this, free use of a furnished apartment in Reykjavik is included. Furthermore, there will be a one-time reimbursement of costs for the travel to and from Iceland. Residence is compulsory.

The scholarship holder is responsible for his/her own insurance (health insurance, accident and liability insurance, etc.).

The Goethe-Institut Dänemark, in consultation with UNESCO City of Literature Reykjavik, decides on the award on the basis of the quality and relevance of the project submitted for the stay in Reykjavik. There is no right of appeal.
