Sonic diary
Tracing presence on land

Projects 2024 | Round 14

Coproduction partners: Josten Myburgh (Australia), Sabine Vogel (Germany), Emilio Gordoa (Germany)
Emilio Gordoa, Josten Myburgh and Sabine Vogel are three musicians with a shared interest in improvising “as weather”: playing with and as the sounds of the environment.

Their project “Tracing presence on land” is a sonic-musical diary of their long collaboration, carrying the stories and echoes of the places they have worked in together. Field recordings and collective outdoor soundings made in their respective homelands in Mexico, Germany and Australia are folded into a tapestry with live instrumentation that imagines new ways of relating to place.

Their project involves short residencies each in Paretz, Fünfseenland, Meelup (Dunsborough) and Yagan mia (Wireless Hill, Boorloo/Perth), followed by a concert tour of Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand including performances at the Audible Edge Festival of Exploratory Music, COMA, the Audio Foundation and Pyramid Club. Contributions from human and non-human collaborators throughout the journey will be woven into the composition.
