École des Sables (Senegal), Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany)

As part of a unique exchange project by the École des Sables and the Pina Bausch Foundation two prominent figures of international dance will share their creative environments and explore their common grounds. Germaine Acogny, dancer, choreographer and founder of the École des Sables in Senegal will create a new work together with a former ensemble member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

Germaine Acogny is considered worldwide as the ‘mother of Contemporary African Dance’ and one of the most significant voices of dance in Africa today. The two dancers with their long-standing experiences, will co-choreograph and perform a new duet. Both artists will explore their unique heritage and discover their communalities, eventually incorporating this into their new creation.

The new creation will be presented as part of a two-part evening, together with a production of Pina Bausch’s Le Sacre du printemps with African dancers, first in Senegal and later on in Germany. International tours in Africa and across Europe will be developed together with the Sadler’s Wells (United Kingdom).
