Conditions of Funding
We fund German-based professional musicians and ensembles planning music projects abroad.
We award travel grants to support professional and high-calibre projects abroad in almost every musical genre.
For the sake of sustainability, we do not fund short trips. Your music project should include at least three events (concerts, workshops, panels, etc.).
This funding is not for newcomer performing artists, music education projects, trips for commercial or tourist purposes, organized social gatherings, benefit events (i.e. fundraisers), school or university projects, development aid projects or travel to conventions, symposiums or competitions.

- You have already received a firm invitation to partner with artists abroad.
- As a rule, we provide only partial funding in the form of a travel grant (to cover airfare, train fare, transfer charges, shipping instruments, visa fees). So the bulk of the funding for your project should already be secured from other sources. We do not cover costs of accommodation or top up performers’ fees.
- Your trip should be mainly about concertizing. But the grant may also cover master classes, seminars, workshops and the like in connection with concerts.
- Projects in almost any music genre are eligible for funding, except: schlager, blues, cabaret, folk music and musicals.
- Consideration of sustainability criteria in the choice of means of transport: We prefer to support rail travel, especially within Europe for travel times of up to seven hours. We assess the eligibility of additional costs compared to air fares.
- Fully completed application form
- Official confirmation from a collaborator abroad, incl. agreed dates and events (concerts, workshops etc.) and specific contributions by the local partner (amount of fee, assumption of costs of accommodation, equipment etc.).
- Recent audio sample (link)
- Two quotes for travel fares (from Internet portals, travel agencies etc.) as proof of a particularly inexpensive itinerary
- In the case of air travel, the offer with the lowest CO2 emissions is to be included as well
Projects for which travel arrangements (e.g. flights) have already been booked before applying for a grant are generally not eligible for funding. So, before making any binding reservations, you must submit an informal request for a dispensation to make advance travel arrangements. Bear in mind, however, that this dispensation does not constitute a promise to award any funding.

Inclusion and sustainability
We feel it's very important to enable people with disabilities to participate fully in arts and culture and strongly encourage disabled artists to apply. We provide partial funding to make music projects accessible to people with special needs.
Making music projects sustainable is a high priority for us. So we’d be glad to advise you on ways to minimize your project’s carbon footprint.
Recommendations for climate- and resource-friendly travel in the Music Division funding programmes: If you have any questions in this regard or need assistance with the application process, feel free to contact us.
