Tell Me Your Story
Caught between fragile normality and banal brutality
Where do you come from and why are you here? What do you miss and what are you looking for? Young Syrian refugees tell their stories in videos and photographs. The Goethe-Institut is presenting them online.
The everyday lives of fleeing Syrians living in refugee camps outside of Turkish cities is marked by fear, intimidation and discrimination as they are caught in an absurd reality between fragile normality and banal brutality. In these difficult circumstances, Tell Me Your Story, a project by the Goethe-Institut Istanbul, offers a mediating platform between the refugees and the receiving society: understanding and empathy rather than coarse rejection. The project documents the experiences of children and young people in times of war, which do not end with the successful escape.
