Conference in Berlin – Let’s Talk about Dialogue

Enough discussion! Enough? Is there a point when it no longer makes sense to continue a debate? Intercultural dialogue often proves challenging in particular when we grapple with differing values. Should we sustain intercultural communication at any price? Can the dialogue between cultures really be on equal footing? Experts from politics and academia will talk about these questions on 23 and 24 February. Dialogue and the Experience of the Other is the title of the conference organized by the Goethe-Institut, the LMU Munich and the Munich Center for Ethics.

The speakers include Germany’s foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the literary scholar Wang Hui from Beijing, philosopher Rahel Jaeggi from Berlin, political scientist Achille Mbembe from Johannesburg and philosopher Sari Nusseibeh from Jerusalem. The aim of the conference is to bring together the theory and practice of intercultural dialogue and thus provide new stimuli for foreign cultural policy.

The conference will be held on Monday, 23 February, from 3 until 7:30 pm and on Tuesday, 24 February, from 9:15 am until 7:00 pm at the Leibniz-Saal of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Arts and Sciences (entrance located at Markgrafenstr. 38, 10117 Berlin).
