The Aquanauts (Film project)

In the international film series “The Aquanauts”, young Gulf residents in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) approach the importance of water in their everyday lives for the first time.

The Gulf region is one of the hottest and driest regions all over the world. However, the daily water consumption averages over 500 liters per person. Such huge volume is created by large industrial plants that convert seawater into drinking water on the shores of the Gulf. This process consumes a lot of energy and valuable raw materials, the finiteness of which can also be foreseen in the Gulf.

The PASCH students in Oman investigated what water means for their everyday lives and made a short film about water use in Oman. In the documentary, the German students follow in the footsteps of the traditional Falaj system. During their research, they discover how saline seawater is endangering agriculture on the coast of Oman.
Supervision: Carlos Alvarez Vela, Fabian Feiner and Jan Bosse
