Film Program NAAS: She Reel

Marianne Winckler, a well-known author, goes to live in northern France to research for her new book on the subject of job insecurity. Without revealing her true identity, she gets hired as a cleaner, working with a group of other women. In this new role, she experiences financial instability and social invisibility first-hand. But she also discovers mutual assistance and solidarity, strong bonds shared by these behind-the-scenes working women.

About the program:

The NAAS Film Program, a collaboration of UAE cultural institutions including the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, the Embassies of France, Canada, Switzerland and Austria, as well as the Italian Cultural Institute of Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Manarat Al Saadiyat, proudly presents a film series dedicated to women's equality. By screening movies that depict diverse perspectives and challenges faced by women globally, the project aims to provoke thought, inspire discussion, and promote awareness of gender inequality issues. Through storytelling and cinematic artistry, it seeks to foster understanding and solidarity in the pursuit of a more equitable world for women. NAAS starts on January 08 and runs bi-weekly over the entire first semester of 2025 at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi. All film screenings will be announced via social media and on the website of Goethe-Institut Gulf Region.
