Goethe Lounge: Mary Ocher

Die Singer-Songwriterin Mary Ocher lässt gekonnt die Grenzen zwischen Pop und Avantgarde verschwimmen. Dabei ist ihre farbenfrohe, verspielte Musik von kulturhistorischen Bezügen durchtränkt. In Moskau geboren, zog sie als Kind nach Tel Aviv, wo Themen wie Nationalismus und Fremdenfeindlichkeit ihre kreative Arbeit prägten. Als junge Erwachsene ließ sie sich in Berlin nieder und wurde dort zu einer Schlüsselfigur der Underground-Szene.

Mary Ocher tourte in über 40 Ländern und arbeitete mit Künstlern wie Mogwai, King Khan und Felix Kubin zusammen. Ihre Musik lässt sich nur schwer einem Genre zuordnen und verbindet Elemente aus Folk, Garage, Ambient und Experimental-Pop. Ihre Veröffentlichungen werden häufig von Texten oder Essays begleitet, die ihr starkes Engagement für die Underground-Musikszene unterstreichen.
