Terms and Conditions - Language Courses
1. General Requirements
1.1 Participants in general and special language courses must be at least 18 years of age. Different conditions apply for children’s and teen courses.
1.2 New students, other than those enrolled for A1.1, will be asked to complete our placement test. This will enable us to place you in the appropriate course for your level and we will advise you of this by telephone or email.
2. Terms of Payment
2.1 Enrolments are accepted by online registration, email, in person or over the phone - on a first come, first serve basis. Course fees must be paid in full before commencement of the course. An enrolment confirmation will be emailed to you after payment has been received. A receipt will also be provided.
2.2 If full payment is not received by the due date, the participant loses their right to participate. In such cases, the Goethe-Institut (hereafter referred to as “GI”) retains its entitlement to the course fee.
2.3 We accept payment EFTPOS, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Debit Card). The course fees include 10% GST.
3. Course fees
3.1 The contractually binding fee is the fee stated in the price list current at the time of application.
3.2 To receive the Early Bird discount, students must enrol in a course before the Early Bird deadline. Discount cannot be claimed retrospectively.
3.3 At the completion of three consecutive 30-hour courses, course participants will be eligible for a 25% discount on their fourth course. It is the students responsibility to claim their Goethe-Liebling Loyalty discount when enrolling in their fourth course. Please contact the language course office to receive your unique discount code before completing the online-enrolment. You will not be able to claim the loyalty-discount retrospectively, however, you can apply the discount when booking your next course.
3.4 Discounts cannot be combined (Loyalty Card, Student, Senior, Early Bird, Siblings).
4. Cancellation and refunds
4.1 The following conditions apply if the course participant is unable to take part in the course:
Applications for withdrawals from a course must be received in writing no later than 5 business days before the start of the course. The Goethe-Institut will fully refund your course minus a $50 service charge. No cancellation will be allowed after course commencement. It is not possible to transfer a course or a part of a course to a third party or the next term. No (partial) refunds are possible for students who miss one or more classes.
4.2 If enrolment numbers are insufficient on the starting date, we reserve the right to cancel or postpone the course. In this case we will offer the participants the opportunity to move to another course or to receive a full refund of the course fee. We regret that we can only conduct courses that have the minimum number of participants by the end of the enrolment period. To avoid cancellations of courses, we advise students to register before the Early-Bird deadline.
5. Course level assignment / class size
5.1 Placement in course levels is based on the placement test conducted by the Goethe-Institut.
5.2 Our courses have at least 7 students. If enrolments are insufficient on the starting date, we reserve the right to cancel the course or shorten teaching times. In that case we will contact you before course commencement.
Classes with less than 5 course participants will only run after discussion with prospective students. The smaller class sizes provide more personal attention and therefore students will progress through the course material at a faster rate. The course fee remains the same for smaller classes.
6. Course Transfers
Transfers into another level will only be considered in the first week of the term, after discussion with the course-coordinator.
7. Public Holidays
No classes are held on Australia-wide public holidays. Replacement sessions will be provided.
8. Responsibilities of participants
Participants are obliged to comply with the house rules applicable to the Goethe-Institut.
9. Liability of the Goethe-Institut
The liability of GI and its staff is limited to intent and gross negligence. The GI also accepts no liability for the cancellation of its services due to force majeure (e.g. natural disasters, fire, floods, war, official orders and all other circumstances beyond the control of the contractual parties).
10. Lockdown Regulations
The Goethe-Institut Australien is committed to the health and safety of our students, as well as to finding solutions to continue uninterrupted German classes. Therefore, should we find ourselves unable to continue offering face-to-face classes due to the public health crisis, all courses will be moved to virtual group sessions, with an equivalent amount of live interaction with the tutor. By registering for our current face-to-face courses, you agree that you have read this notification, and that you accept the digital alternative in the event that courses must be offered digitally.
Please note: no refunds will be given in the event of temporarily replacing face-to-face classes with a digital alternative.
