Eating and Cooking

"For as long as I can remember, I've been almost exclusively interested in eating and cooking. Even as a small child, I had no other hobby and preferred to be in the kitchen rather than playing in my room. The older I got, the more I wanted to know about the history and culture behind food, and got more and more hungry. Hungry for new countries, foreign flavors, and new taste experiences.

As I also happened to be studying fine arts and art history before my career in cooking, the Graphic Travelogues project was the perfect combination of all the things I love. Cooking, foreign countries and the arts. Also two years ago I was able to travel to Nigeria for the Goethe-Institute. Since then I have known what great projects they are implementing. So I am very proud being part of this new project, too.

With my fusion 'Berlin Biryany,' I want to combine a dish from India with the flavors of my big city. I'm a huge fan of mixing different national cuisines and combining the best from all regions worldwide on one plate. So why not cook an Indian spiced rice dish with dried local fruits from Berlin and good old German butter?

Getting to know the artist Alexandra on the day of the shooting was a great pleasure for me. Watching her as the pencil was wandering over the paper reminded me of my life as a student. Moreover, it was very satisfying to see how colorful the drawing got through Alexandra's watercolor pens. My motto in the kitchen is: "If it looks colorful, it tastes colorful too. It's great to know someone now who can depict this and keep it on paper for eternity."
