Carlos Martiel
Road to the Sea
Cuban artist. He lives and works in New York and Havana. Martiel graduated from the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts, in Havana, in 2009. Between 2008 and 2010, he participated in the Art of Conduct Lecture, led by artist Tania Bruguera. Martiel's works have been included in the 57th Venice Biennale, Italy; Casablanca Biennale, Morocco; La Otra Biennial, Bogotá, Colombia; Liverpool Biennial, United Kingdom, Pontevedra Biennial, Galicia, Spain; and Havana Biennial, Cuba. He has made performances at The Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, USA; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, USA; The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Houston, USA; the Museum of Contemporary Art of Zulia, Maracaibo, Venezuela; Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan, Italy; Robert Miller Gallery, New York, USA; and the Nitsch Museum, Naples, Italy. In addition, he has received several accolades, such as the Franklin Furnace Fund in New York, USA, 2016; the ‘CIFOS Grants & Commissions Program Award’ in Miami, USA, 2014; and Arte Laguna in Venice, Italy, 2013.
