If wars and conflicts leave anything behind besides destruction and death, then are archetypes. The good and the bad, the victim and the perpetrator. The political violence of the late twentieth century in Peru does not escape these dichotomies, present even today in public debate as well as in culture and media, despite numerous attempts by society to untangle its causes. In an attempt to understand all the contradictions and ambiguities of this reality, the Goethe-Institut and the Cultural Center of the University of the Pacific inaugurated in September 2016 the diploma course in Dramatic Writing and Political Theater.
Its objective is to explore and to complexify, starting from theater, other stories that deepen especially in the internal conflict of the 80es and 90es. In addition to attending seminars, laboratories, conferences and workshops, the 20 participants in the course are developing individual projects that address issues such as forced disappearance by the hands of the Shining Path and the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA), or the sterilization of indigenous women during The government of Alberto Fujimori. The hope is for dramaturgies capable of confronting different versions and, above all, to promote a critical and collective reflection on historical memory.
