As part of CYCLE UP! and the
The Green Side of Libraries, we invite you for a day of crafting and making with sustainable materials at the Goethe-Institut. We will have hands-on artistic workshops using found objects and recycled materials such as old wallpaper, wrapping paper, magazines and newspapers! Hot drinks and Christmas cookies will be available for all and food and drinks can also be purchased at the Goethe-Café. Please note, that you have to sign up for some of the workshops.

1 –Making Christmas presents

You are warmly invited to a workshop in which you will make small gifts for your loved ones, such as Christmas angels and decorations, with recycled paper and aluminium coffee capsules. The workshop will be led by
Ester Rosíková from
Kreativatelier. Ester organizes creative workshops and is particularly interested in modern printing techniques, macramé techniques, seasonal decorations and loves to recycle materials that would otherwise end up in the trash.
2 – Zine Workshop with Lotte van den Hoogen

In this workshop, we will each create a zine, which is a self-published, DIY magazine, focused on our personal stories. The zines that we create will be reproduced using a zine-printing machine and they will be available to read from a zine vending machine which will be installed at the Goethe-Institut.
Lotte van den Hoogen (she/her) is an art teacher from the Netherlands. She has given workshops in Dutch, English and German and participated in exhibitions in the Netherlands and Germany. With her background in art education and her passion for feminism, her project fe-mini-ism deals with the small everyday gestures of feminism.

3 – Notebook binding workshop with
REFORMÁT

In this workshop, upcycling is combined with bookbinding. At the same time as questioning sustainable concepts, participants will hold their own self-bound notebook in their hands at the end. REFORMÁT introduces you to techniques, materials, and the production of the notebook, with a special focus on the use of old Christmas magazines and wrapping paper.
REFORMÁT is a second-hand stationery store and book binder. The organisation recycles directly and produces functional and practical products such as notepads, cookbooks and much more. Their work focuses on sustainable production, working with second-hand materials, book binding, and graphic design.
4 – Notebook Making Workshop for

Come and make a notebook and pencil with us and learn about the basics of book binding! This workshop is for children, and we will recycle old materials and create a homemade notebook and pencil, decorated with handmade stamps.
Zuzana Mašková, illustrator and graphic artist, specialises in classical artistic techniques. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and is the author of freelance prints and books. She collaborates with the publishing house Bylo nebylo and she currently works in Odolena Voda, where she has her own graphic studio where and offers courses for the public.
5 – Plant Swap and terracotta pot painting!
Age group: All ages
English friendly workshop
Looking for extra Christmas gifts that don’t cost the earth? Fancy a new plant or two? Come and swap your plant cuttings with us! Bring a pest-free, beautiful plant, or two or three for trade; they can be potted or bare root—as long as you’re prepared to part with them. There will also be terracotta pots that you can decorate and take your new cuttings home in!

6 - Automata Cardboard Dinosaur
