Change Through Art

As “agents of change”, artists can play a central role in uncovering and overcoming gender norms and discrimination. The artists from the Change Through Art project question the idea of role models, expose discrimination and power relations through artistic formats, and thus support a participatory civil society discourse on gender roles.

Change Through Art explores topics such as gender roles, power relations and experiences of discrimination through project objectives. Particularly women from decentralized regions in Egypt were supported. Through dialogues with experts and participation in various workshops, the supported artists were able to reflect on their own roles within society. This exploration enabled them to develop project ideas aimed at fostering greater equality and social diversity.

Participants are provided with a production grant, allowing them to further develop their projects and performances. Art serves not only as entertainment but also as a means to make the chosen topic accessible to a wide audience, thereby raising awareness in society. At the end of the year, the newly developed productions were performed at various venues in Egypt.

Change Through Art is a project of the Goethe-Institut, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
