Even though she’s retired, she’s not settling down: Granny Trude lives in ways that are good for her and for the environment – without a lot of money, but with creativity and a little improvisation and skill. She shares her best tips with us.

My dears, what an exciting weekend it was! My thirteen year old granddaughter from Hamburg came to visit, and of course we had to go to one of those colourful shops. You know, where you can get shampoo and things like that.

Organic, organic, organic: That’s fine, but the prices – and packaging everywhere! I almost felt dizzy. It’s all much cheaper and more environmentally friendly if you make the products yourself.

Knowing what’s happening in the world

But wait a minute, one thing at a time: After all, I don’t want to bore you with stories about my life …
I’m Trude – no longer young, but still full of life, as the saying goes. After all, there’s still so much to do!

And don’t think I’m one of those people who read illustrated magazines all day long and push their wheeled walkers around – even life in retirement is way too short for that!

I want to change something – not just turn away, but think a step or two ahead instead!

I live in a little house with garden and vegetable bed in Hollenbach – not far from Augsburg, a city in Bavaria. In my home I have a small workshop, but also a room with laptop and music system. After all, I want to know what’s happening in the world – if not on my laptop, I can follow what my dear children and grandchildren who are scattered all over Germany are doing on the small screen of my smartphone.

Creative and a bit of improvisation

If it gets too quiet for me in my little house, I go and visit a friend in town. My electric scooter is a reliable help for short distances – especially when I’m feeling too lonely and dwell too much on memories of my beloved husband Hans, who departed far too soon.

But enough about me now: I’m looking forward to giving you a few tips for making your everyday life a bit more enjoyable and doing the environment some good – without a lot of money, but with creativity and a little improvisation and skill. Because even if I’m no longer working, I feel like I want to change something – not just turn away, but think a step or two ahead instead!
